About this cluster
Within the Marlborough and Pewsey Music Cluster there were 21 schools (local authority maintained and academies) in the 2021-22 academic year – 2 secondary and 19 primary schools. St Francis School (an independent school in Pewsey) is also an active cluster member.
The majority of the cluster’s schools are situated in rural villages (Pewsey is considered a large village), in addition to the 3 schools in Marlborough. This indicates a much higher proportion of rural schools than most other music clusters. 11 of the primary phase schools are ‘small schools’ (fewer than 120 children on roll), again a higher proportion of small schools than other music clusters.
Indices of Multiple Deprivation 2019 data shows low levels of deprivation in the Marlborough and Pewsey community areas. One Lower Super Output Area (LSOA) is ranked in the 4th decile for overall deprivation nationally, with all other LSOAs ranked in the 5th to 10th deciles. 6 LSOAs are in the lowest 20% for deprivation nationally.
The cluster has relatively low proportions of pupils who receive Free School Meals. One school had higher than the national average of pupils eligible for Free School Meals – Marlborough St Mary’s Primary (n=94, 23.7%). Schools with the highest numbers or proportions of children eligible for Service Pupil Premium in the cluster were St John’s Marlborough (n=38, 2.2%) Pewsey Vale School (n=40, 12.2%), Woodborough Primary (n=29, 14.9%) and Rushall Primary (n=39, 31.1%).
The numbers of pupils with special educational needs (SEN) were notably higher than the national average at Pewsey Vale School (n=67, 20.4% receiving SEN support) and Marlborough St Mary’s Primary (n=32, 8.1% with an EHCP).
