About this cluster

Within the Mere and Tisbury Music Cluster there were 8 primary schools (local authority maintained and academies) in the 2021-22 academic year.  There are no secondary schools in the cluster.  Children mostly travel to secondary schools in Salisbury, or Shaftesbury and Gillingham in Dorset.

All of the cluster’s schools are in rural villages.  6 out of the 8 schools are ‘small schools’ (less than 120 children on roll).  The smallest schools are Hindon Primary (57 children on roll) and Whitesheet Primary (34 children).

Indices of Multiple Deprivation 2019 data shows relatively low levels of deprivation in the area.  One Lower Super Output Area (LSOA) ranks in the 4th highest decile for overall deprivation nationally, with all others in the least 50% of LSOAs for overall deprivation.

There are 3 schools in the cluster which had higher than the national average of pupils eligible for Free School Meals –St John’s Primary (n=32, 26.7%), Hindon Primay (n=15, 26.3%) and Whitesheet Primary (n=12, 35.2%).  Schools in the cluster have relatively low numbers or proportions of children eligible for Service Pupil Premium.

The numbers of pupils with special educational needs (SEN) were notably higher than the national average at Whitesheet Primary (n=12, 35.3% receiving SEN support and n=3, 8.8% with an EHCP).
