An inspirational event or experience for a young person will feel relevant to them, the things going on in their lives and where they are as young people and (potential) musicians.
A tutor or music leader need not be famous to be brilliant and inspiring!
A really good event in a school or village hall can light the flame just as much as a large scale event in a far away place!
An inspirational experience can be the beginning of a longer term relationship with music, venues or providers of opportunities.
As a result of that inspirational experience, a young person might feel…
- “Yes! This (or something similar) could be for me.”
- “I want to do that” – in which case we need to consider how they are signposted to where and how can they could learn / participate / join?
- “Actually I preferred the other thing to this but I’m glad I heard it.” Not as great, but its important we encourage choice and variety.
