Associates who are Inclusive Music Aware (IMA) are demonstrating their commitment to continuing to develop their own skills, knowledge and expertise regarding music with children and young people who may have special educational needs, mental health issues, disabled young people, and those with social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties.
This initiative was launched back at our Future Facing & Inclusive Music Conference on 15 May 2018 following research and round table discussions involving a number of Associates and hub team members.
What do I need to do?
If, as an existing Associate or an applicant, you make a pledge to engage in a minimum of three inclusion related CPD activities within the next 12 months we can add “Inclusive Music Aware” (IMA) to your Associate status. This helps parents, schools, students, and colleagues understand that you are continuing to developing your inclusive music teaching skills and awareness.
We’ll ask you to update this every year in May – when we usually have an Associate networking conference with free inclusion related CPD sessions!
Apply for IMA status: Associate Providers
- Make a pledge to engage in a minimum of three CPD activities in the next year by completing the pledge form (see link below)
- Once we’ve checked it over, your existing or applicant Associate directory entry will then be upgraded to include Inclusive Music Aware status
- Keep a record of your CPD activity
- An annual email to Associates will ask you to share any interesting resources, training or learning, and remind you to update your directory profile Endorsements/Training tab with your CPD activity
- Wiltshire Music Connect will ensure that free CPD to support inclusive music practice is available as part of it’s ongoing CPD provision – but CPD can be anything from an hour or so online research to attending a national conference or observing a colleague
- There will be no “checking up” on Associates – this is a personal pledge which can be renewed once a year
Apply for IMA status: Associate organisations
- Make a pledge to engage in a minimum of three CPD activities that can be cascaded through your organisation in some way.
- Complete the pledge form (see link below)
- Once we’ve checked it over, your existing or applicant Associate directory entry will then be upgraded to include Inclusive Music Aware status
- Keep a record of your CPD activity
- An annual email to Associates will ask you to share any interesting resources, training or learning, and remind you to update your directory profile Endorsements/Training tab with your CPD activity.
CPD for organisations could include adding inclusion as a standing item on your meetings agenda, an in-house team briefing / training session or identifying a member of your team as lead inclusion representative – who could attend CPD events offered by Wiltshire Music Connect or other providers and share learning within your team.
This is not a compulsory or accredited scheme – we don’t need details of what you will be doing, and this will be made clear in the directory. The CPD activities need not be long in terms of time commitment – you may be spending as little as one hour three times a year – or may have opportunities to engage in longer training activities. Once a year we’ll email all Associates asking for some examples of CPD to share, and any recommendations for others. And don’t forget to update your Associate profile Endorsements/Training tab to let people know about your CPD activity. It’s about supporting an inclusive music teaching community together in Wiltshire.
Wiltshire Music Connect will also provide free training as part of our ongoing CPD programme to support Associate IMA status. This approach has been developed in consultation with Associates.
