All Associates need to demonstrate up to date knowledge and practice regarding child protection and safeguarding.
A key part of this is child protection training. Associates must have this and should refresh it every three years. You are now required to make a declaration about this in your application and will be asked to provide certification / evidence of completion..
In the case of organisations, their education / participation team will have satisfactorily completed training (or a suitable equivalent) and require tutors / artists / volunteers etc. to satisfactorily complete suitable training.
For many of you, the simplest way to do this is to undertake the free online training we can access for you through Wiltshire Council and the Virtual College. Please note that whilst we can currently give you access to this training for free you need to understand that we cannot provide support with the Virtual College’s registration, log in and completion processes.
If you are invited to interview you will be asked a number of safeguarding related questions.
If you are unable to satisfactorily answer Safeguarding questions at interview we may defer your Associate status until you have completed our additional Safeguarding for Music Leaders training. We strongly advise you to do this training before being interviewed as deferral may mean a wait of up to 6 months. You can find out the next available training date on the What’s On page on our website.
For those applying to be Associates, we can also accept evidence of having completed suitable training with other providers – including the Musicians Union and training provided by / through schools. If you’re unsure whether training you have done is suitable, please email us or ask in your surgery chat.
