XR Piano: Enhancing Keyboard Tuition using Extended Reality

This term we are excited to be taking part in a national XR Piano research project with the Royal College of Music and the Music Education Hubs in Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Leicestershire.

‘XR’ stands for ‘extended reality’, and is used to describe ‘augmented’ and ‘virtual’ reality systems such as the ‘Meta Quest’ headset.  This research explores how pupils and teachers respond to the integration of an XR piano playing app into face-to-face instrumental lessons.

Pupils from Clarendon Academy in Trowbridge and Matravers School in Westbury are being taught by two Wiltshire Music Connect Associates as part of this project – Benjamin Woodbridge and Thomas Edmunds.

We look forward to sharing the research findings with you in due course.
