Instrument and vocal tuition

If your child has special educational needs, disability, or poor social emotional or mental health they are entitled to a 70% discount for instrument or vocal tuition. The application needs to come from school, and the tutor needs to be one of our Associate Providers. Talk to your school about this subsidy, and ask them to contact us if they need more details. Find out more here.

If your child needs an adapted instrument please do get in touch with us and we will try and sign post you to support and advice. The Take It Away musical instrument consortium have produced a free Guide to Adapted Musical Instruments

We are working with Soundabout to support a new inclusive choir for Wiltshire. Joining the choir is free, and welcomes all families with young people with SEND, and Soundabout have been featured on the BBC during the Covid-19 restrictions for taking their sessions online! At the time of writing you can join the choir for online sessions, which will gradually move to meeting in person when the time is right. For more information and to sign up to the choir click here.

Music teachers and organisations in Wiltshire

Many of our Associate Providers have specialist experience and skills working with young people with a wide range of abilities and needs, and we provide an ongoing programme of training opportunities to support them. We have developed an Inclusive Music Awareness scheme – so Associates who can demonstrate they are up to date with knowledge and awareness of the best ways to support all children and young people are now searchable in our directory. (Look for the “Inclusive Music Aware” filter). All our Associate profiles contain information about their specialist skills and experiences, and you can browse the directory by location and instruments taught, etc.

Special Schools

We have been working to support musical opportunities at our special schools including whole class music making and supporting projects using sensory music sessions, makaton and singing and ipads. If your child attends a special school ask them to get in touch with us for more information about how we could help.

Wiltshire Parent Carer Council
