New Song for Wiltshire Schools!

“TOGETHER” is a song and composition resource to support singing again in Wiltshire schools

Singing is known to be highly beneficial in many ways. It helps with communication and language development and supports good physical and mental health and wellbeing – and it makes you happy!

But since the restrictions applied due to Covid-19, singing in our schools is either restricted or just doesn’t happen.

“Our voices apart – but our song’s the same…..”

We have a new song with composition resources that can be used for both remote and classroom settings

Together was commissioned by Wiltshire Music Connect in response to the challenges and experiences of the Covid-19 restrictions and to support school recovery plans. It comes with a set teaching resources to enable schools to engage with the song in different ways – from singing, to improvising along with instruments or body percussion, and writing lyrics and using ideas submitted by young people.

We look forward to hearing school’s own recordings of the song, and will keep the Together page on our website updated with links and news about the life of the song.

The composers of the song are local professional composers, musicians and Wiltshire Music Connect Associates Tim Gilvin and Louise Jordan and inclusive resources have been created by Emma Hughes

You can listen to the song, watch the composer’s video diary about writing the song and find further information including composing resources here

Singing guidance for schools

The Government stipulate singing can take place as long as certain mitigations are in place and many schools in Wiltshire are continuing to support singing in class “bubbles” and small groups, being careful with distancing, positioning, and ventilation.
