New Partnership with Charanga
We are delighted to announce a new partnership with Charanga that will enable Wiltshire Primary Schools to access a Charanga Musical School license at a reduced price.
Charanga Musical School is an award-winning, modern-day resource for primary schools providing a complete scheme to teach the national curriculum for music. It includes a growing library of songs, topics, instrument courses, and creative apps as well as support for assessment, SEND and personalised teaching and learning.
Any schools can use Charanga to support First Access delivery. There are courses available for a range of instruments including recorder, ukulele and drumming that are all designed to be accessible to non-specialists and provide students with an excellent introduction to the instrument. The skills learnt during these courses can be reinforced and developed through the curriculum scheme.
Of particular value at the moment is the ability to share resources for students to use at home with the online student platform, Yumu.
Yumu is a safe online space where students learn, play and develop their musicianship by:
- Completing assignments that you set using your own and Charanga’s materials
- Engaging in simple independent learning, chosen from a range of exciting Yumu Packages which include some new ‘Music at Home’ units developed specifically in response to the current lockdown situation.
“Since receiving the training for Charanga, we have begun to start implementing the programme into our music teaching across the school. We have also explored the Ukulele programme as part of our whole class teaching.
The general teaching by lesson programme, using the step by step guide explained to us in training, allows us to ‘hop’ around the units provided in order to complement them with our school topics. This has meant the programme has been very easy and versatile to use. In the future, we are hoping that with our new skills acquired from our training, we are able to expand the programme for children to use at home (YUMU) as well as begin to build up the enthusiasm of non-specialist staff to confidently teach music in class.”
