Sugne Du Toit
About
I am a qualified music teacher with 20 years’ experience in preparing students of all abilities for external practical and theory examinations including ABRSM and the Trinity College of London. I hold an Honors degree in Music Education with keyboard technique and harmony as my main subjects.
Currently, I am Head of Music at a secondary school in Wiltshire. As curriculum teacher of music in Key Stage 3 and 4, I expose my students to different genres of music through listening, practical application and composition. Every lesson incorporates some essential theoretical knowledge to give every student the necessary equipment to compose and appreciate all types of music.
What I / we help young people achieve
I tailor my approach to each student’s musical aspiration. For some students, this might be to play popular music as a recreational activity and for others it might be to progress through the grades to gain UCAS points or pursue music as a career.
Music is a discipline but should also be fun. I encourage and provide the opportunity for my students to perform in an ensemble or in front of an audience.
Whatever the student’s motivation, studying music leads to personal growth.
