I am an experienced Primary music specialist with 10 years class teaching experience across KS1 and 2.
I studied for a BMus Music degree at Goldsmiths College, University of London and gained a 2:1. It was during this time that I discovered a real love of teaching; which led me to complete a PGCE Middle Years Music at Bath Spa University.
During my time as a teacher I gained experience working with young choirs, orchestras and instrumental groups. I prepared these groups for performances within the school setting and in the wider community; from carol singing in church at Christmas, to playing an arrangement of The Firebird by Stravinsky in an orchestra from across a local authority area!
I have experience working with young musicians on a one-to-one basis on Clarinet, Saxophone and Recorder and have prepared them for ABRSM exams and more informal performances within a school or wider setting. I also teach one-to-one and small group singing lessons, focusing on breathing, supporting the voice and vocal technique as well as learning an eclectic repertoire of songs.
I am always very pupil led, and tailor lessons and outcomes to their interests and strengths.
I also play reguarly with a saxophone group based in Chippenham, and sing weekly with a Choral Society in Bath.
What I / we help young people achieve
I believe that involvement in music making is hugely beneficial to young people and can help them progress in so many ways. Music making encourages creativity and a sense of worth in a young person's own ability. It encourages them to be self-motivated and organised.
It creates social confidence and teamwork skills through group music making and I always encourage young musicians I work with to take part in group projects. Singing and playing instruments in groups makes you feel happy, healthy, and helps with communication skills and brain development.
