About
Member of Salisbury Area Music Cooperative. Over 38 years experience of teaching brass instruments (Trumpet, Cornet, French Horn, Tenor Horn, Baritone, Euphonium and Tuba; Beginner to Grade 8. Trombone and Bass Trombone; Beginner to Diploma). Conducting ensembles ranging from beginner brass bands to youth orchestras and senior bands. Extensive playing experience in classical, show, chamber brass and jazz ensembles. Over 20 years experience of teaching First Access/Wider Opportunities type classes (Brass and Recorder)
Studied Trombone with Peter Gane and Eric Crees at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. B.Mus at Surrey University. PGCE at Bulmershe College (specialising in instrumental tuition). Worked for Berkshire Young Musicians Trust (now Berkshire Maestros) – ending as Regional Head, Coventry Performing Arts Service as Deputy Head and Wiltshire Music Service as Assistant Head and Director of Salisbury Area Young Musicians.
Worked with the ABRSM setting the pieces for the 2010 and 2017 Trombone Syllabus. Reader for Brass Wind Publications. Pieces for Junior Band published by Mostyn Music.
What I / we help young people achieve
Happy and motivated pupils: low give up rate, good examination results, high level of membership of ensembles (school and music centre).
Some pupils have gone on to study music and make a living in the wider arts world, many more continue to play for enjoyment and fulfilment in their adult life
