Paula Boyagis (Nisbet)
About
I have been teaching flute and singing for 20 years, entering my pupils for Associated Board Exams, LCM Music Theatre Exams, local Eisteddfods, and supporting them in a wide variety of local performance opportunities in West Wiltshire.
I ran the choir at St. Joseph’s Primary School in Devizes for many years during which time we were invited to perform at many local concerts and celebrations in the town. For some years I also did classroom music teaching and ran school singing sessions.
I have been teaching flute at St. Augustine’s College in Trowbridge for 5 years, where I am presently.
I perform myself both as a flautist and mezzo-soprano, regularly with White Horse Opera Devizes with whom I am also a stand-in conductor and long-term committee member . I am also Music Director for the Lavington Community choir.
I have organised many concerts and fund-raising charity events.
I studied music at Newcastle University gaining a BA (Hons).
What I / we help young people achieve
My goal is to teach my pupils the skills needed to become good performers and musicians, whether on the flute or in singing. I aim to instil in them a love of making music and an understanding of what is involved whilst having fun in lessons .
I always try to understand the needs of each child, gearing lessons specifically to their individual abilities, aspirations and to what inspires them in their playing or singing. In performing regularly myself I feel I can pass on my own ever-changing experiences and enthusiasms.
For those who wish to take exams and to perform I aim for high results, and over the years I have seen my pupils develop and blossom with the confidence this gives them not only in their own music-making but in every aspect of maturing into well-rounded adults.
