About
I had the privilege of growing up in Salisbury and accessing the fantastic musical opportunities available, such as instrumental tuition, SAYM, Wiltshire Youth Orchestra, which led to a music degree at City University, and beginning my career in the Royal Artillery Band. I now specialises in community music, music workshops and teaching Cello and Highland Bagpipes plus beginner Saxophone, beginner Ukulele and beginner recorder.
In my music workshops, I love to work with Early Years and Primary school children and families, extending through to teens and beyond with 1:1 tuition.
I am particularly interested in music and singing for health, wellbeing and community-building, and giving people the opportunity to access music informally. I have lived in Wiltshire since 2016 where I teach cello 1:1, have run intergenerational music projects in Old Sarum, worked with Wiltshire Family Learning and Salisbury City Children’s Centre to deliver a 20-week Early Years music project and run an after-school ukulele club in Wilton. I also run other community music groups in and around south Wiltshire.
I hold a music degree, a performance diploma, a certificate in Music Workshop Skills and Certificate for Music Educators: Early Years this year. I also hold a PTLLS qualification for teaching adults. I am currently studying for a PhD, researching intergenerational music in care homes.
What I / we help young people achieve
I see my work as providing one of the first stepping stones into music-making and linking in with the other opportunities around Salisbury. I tailor my work to the individuals I work with, whether that is taking exams or going onto learn other instruments (for example as a progression route from my own community projects), and measure impact by those terms.
