Mary Connolly Music

About

Becoming a piano teacher has fused two of my passions, teaching children and making music. I am an experienced primary school teacher (PGCE), ad worked as Music C0-ordinator in a Primary School. I have been teaching piano since January 2020. For the last three years I have also been working with preschool children, storytelling through a combination of music and drama. In addition to playing the piano, I also enjoy playing the flute in a local wind quintet and singing.

What I / we help young people achieve

As a teacher, there really is nothing more rewarding than helping children to grow in confidence of their abilities and of course music has so much to offer in terms of wellbeing. Whilst some of my pupils will want to progress to taking exams, I consider my role to be largely in invoking a love of playing and making music that will stay with them forever, as it has with me. I therefore give a lot of time to improvisation as well as more formal training. I would love to get involved with performances within the county to give my pupils the opportunities to take part in recitals.

Mary is a friendly, fun and creative teacher who knows how to engage children and make learning music fun. My children love learning with her and they have made fantastic progress since they have begun their lessons. I would highly recommend Mary, she is a really inspirational teacher.

My Training & Development

I worked to grade 7 standard in piano and also achieved grade 6 in flute and Grade 4 in voice. I still very much enjoy all three of these and play the flute  in a quintet.

I achieved a B in Music GCSE which helped me to learn some skills in composition.

I was Music co-ordinator in a Primary school and ran the school choir and a recorder club.

I have a PGCE in Primary teaching and worked as a Primary teacher for 10 years.
