About
I have always been a keen pianist, and am passionate about teaching others in the way that works best for them.
I studied music as part of an honours degree at Durham University where I specialised in child development, in particular learning from the perspective of the student, something that still helps me tailor lessons to the needs of each student.
Following a career in publishing, I retrained as a piano teacher working from 2014 in British curriculum schools in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. I returned to the UK in March 2018 and am now working at St Mary’s School Marlborough, St John’s School Marlborough, Ogbourne St George School, Swindon Music Cooperative and Matrix Music Centre.
I enjoy teaching all ages (it is never too late to learn!) and working with both students who want to learn for pleasure as well as those who are working for exams. I have successfully prepared students of all ages for ABRSM and Trinity practical exams up to Grade 8 and ABRSM theory exams up to Grade 5.
I have an ABRSM piano teaching diploma and ABRSM Grade 8 (distinction) in both piano and flute.
What I / we help young people achieve
Playing music has always been a source of huge pleasure to me, and I hope that I can communicate my passion to my students whether they want to learn classical, pop and rock or anything else! Whether or not a student wants to learn for exams or pleasure, it's a fantastic way of improving motor skills and concentration, as well as self confidence; it's always wonderful to see a student 'get' something that they thought they would never be able to achieve. Music also offers the chance to play in groups, especially if you are learning an orchestral/group play instrument.
