About

I am a Trumpet and Piano Teacher with over 5 years experience in a private setting. I teach children from as young as 4 years old right through to adulthood. I have helped my students pass their music grades with both the Trinity and ABRSM syllabuses, where I often accompany my Trumpet students on Piano. I have a 100% success rate of my students achieving their grades with at least a Merit. Many of my other students enjoy learning for fun.

I began my musical journey at the age of 9, where I began learning Trumpet. At the age of 14, I took up learning Piano. I went on to study BA Music at The University of Southampton, where I specialised in Trumpet Performance with Julian Poore, where I was able to develop my interests in Contemporary Classical Trumpet repertoire. It was at University where I discovered Music Therapy and the powers of music to help other people. I am currently in my second year studying MA Music Therapy part time at UWE.

What I / we help young people achieve

Music is for enjoyment. This is what guides me as a teacher. I am led completely by my students with what they are interested in learning. Some of my students are motivated by graded exams, however most of my students enjoy learning for fun so I teach them pieces/songs of music that they would like to learn. I am a relaxed and gentle person, so my teaching approach reflects that. My main aim for teaching is to spread my passion for music and pass on my knowledge of music to others so they can learn, explore and enjoy music in their own way.

Working with special needs

I have significant experience both personally and professionally of working and communicating with children and adults with learning disabilities and/or learning difficulties in musical and non-musical settings. Throughout my career as a music teacher so far, I have experience teaching students with special needs, such as children with Dyslexia and Autism. I am keen to help make music inclusive for all, sometimes just a little bit of creativity, understanding and humour is all that’s needed!

Endorsements

“It’s a pleasure having Jasmine as my Piano teacher. She teaches me many skills to master and pass! I love playing her the new songs I’ve learned, as well as finishing my grade pieces with her help. She also guides me in sight reading and practicing exams, which makes me more confident in playing. She is definitely a brilliant teacher and I enjoy her teaching me.”  – A, Young Piano Student.

“We were delighted to find Jasmine for our sons’ trumpet and piano lessons. Her gentle and patient manner suits them perfectly. Our older son was thrilled to gain a distinction for his first exam and is very motivated to do his second.” – S, Parent of students.

“I had wanted to learn the piano for a long time and decided to treat myself to lessons last year. I have had experiences of very strict and rigid teachers in the past who have put me off playing music, so I was anxious to find someone who would be the complete opposite and I’m so pleased that I found Jasmine! I would recommend her to anyone who wants to learn the piano with a relaxed, encouraging and patient tutor. I only wanted to learn to play for the joy of it and Jasmine understands that, taking time to find pieces that I would enjoy playing and catering my lessons around my goals. I can be quite nervous about playing in front of people, but Jasmine always puts me at ease and it is a pleasure to have lessons with her. She is such a positive person, so knowledgeable and professional and I thoroughly enjoy our lessons together.” – H, Adult Piano Student.

“My daughter was working towards her Grade 4 Trumpet and son was working towards his Grade 1 Trumpet. They were having some lessons at school but their progress had stalled and they had started to lose some interest in playing. Jasmine was recommended to us by a member of the family and as soon as the children met Jasmine, they felt as if they had known her for years. They were comfortable with Jasmine and were keen to start working on their music again. Jasmine is kind, supportive and the ultimate professional, she reignited their passion for music and they both passed their gradings, one with merit and one with distinction. I am certain that the children achieved such excellent exam results because of Jasmine’s support and dedication.  I cannot recommend Jasmine highly enough, anyone studying music would be lucky to have Jasmine as their teacher.” – A, Parent of students.

My Training & Development

As a music educator, it is important that I keep updated with training and development for my teaching skills and musicianship. I am looking forward to having more access to Continuing Professional Development as a new Associate Provider for Wiltshire Music Connect. I would not be a good teacher if I was not devoted to continuing my own musical journey. I play Trumpet in Salisbury Concert Band, I enjoy playing music in wind band environments with other people. I am currently completing my Music Therapy MA at UWE, with the goal to become a HCPC qualified Music Therapist as well as continuing my career as a music educator.
