About
- I am a piano, clarinet and organ teacher, with choral conducting experience.
I have an MA (Musicology) degree from Southampton University and BMus(Hons) specialising in performance (piano) from the University of Surrey. I have experience of teaching piano, clarinet and singing in schools and organ privately. I am always happy for parents for my pupils to contact me via email with questions and queries in relation to their child’s progress, or day to day details about practice.
In addition to this I have spent 15 years directing a large, RSCM affiliated, town centre church choir, with a thriving adult and junior departments. I have recently moved to Wiltshire and teaching piano and clarinet through Salisbury Area Music Co-operative in both primary and secondary schools. I am also a choral conductor, accompanist (including exams), organist and church musician. I have experience of organising singing events with schools and churches, and assisting with the organisation of other events through local RSCM Committees – most recently Wessex Area RSCM.
My choral conducting work is currently as Musical Director of Wareham Choral Society and co Director of Music at Fordingbridge Church (where I also play the organ)
What I / we help young people achieve
My aim is that young people learn to love music and express themselves through it. When teaching I try to tailor my teaching to individual pupils to play to their strengths, although making sure that all areas are covered. Generally my pupils seem to enjoy both their lessons and seeing the progress that they are making, and several have commented that they have been pleasantly surprised to discover exactly how much about music in general they know compared to their peers. My junior choristers at Holy Trinity Church in Fareham always enjoyed choir practice, and came out having learnt a lot, not only about singing, but it's context in the church. Needless to say discovering a talent for music is a joy to both young people and their teachers!
