Davinder Dhariwal (aka Deej)
About
I specialise in music technology, Logic, Ableton, pro- tools, garage band, guitar (electric, acoustic & bass), drums and keyboard-synths.
I am a professional musician with over 10 years’ experience playing in a signed band (Thought Forms), releasing music around the world and touring the UK, North America and Europe. I have a good knowledge of the music industry, have experience in composing music for film (including working on a song for the award-winning soundtrack for the film, Ex Machina), producing albums and making films/music videos.
I teach in a variety of settings, in schools and out schools. I have a degree in Media production which i overlay in some of my music making with young people.
I can work with young people with composition, songwriting, as well as recording and producing their work. I work to grow confidence and gain experience of various instruments as well as using music as a form of self expression and support.
What I / we help young people achieve
As resident music leader with MusicMatters for over 10 years, I have taken part in many projects and initiatives which have had a profound effect on young people, many of whom have gone on to progress as music leaders and study music into their adult life. I have worked with hard to reach children and young people as well as children with SEN/D who wish to progress further as musicians. I have a person centred approach to my practice, where I engage young people to lead their learning and my role is to ensure that they manage this confidently.

Also Works With
I strive to support children and young people from hard to reach communities to develop their skills and confidence in all aspects of music making. I lead a person centred approach to my work, actively listening to the voice of the young person to support their personal development.
I have been working with children and young people for over 20 years, and am an active partner with music matters through Wiltshire Youth Arts Partnership.
As a professional musician/producer who tours around the UK/Europe and North America, I can support young people to progress their musical journey and raise their aspirations through music.

Working with special needs
I have a vast amount of experience working with children and young people who are SEN/D as well as young people who are experiencing mental ill health or children who are long term patients in hospitals.
I have worked with young people with a variety of needs and support requirements, including PMLD, Autism, challenging behaviour, learning disabilities, hearing impaired and many children and young people with hidden disabilities.
My approach is always the same, i work to engage in a person centred way, where the voice of the child is vital, whether it be through subtle movement or listening skills.
