Becky Chilcott

For over 13 years I have taught at 15 schools and have been a founding member of a music academy which was a fantastic experience. I felt great being a part of an organisation that offered so much to the community.

I have played in several bands and an orchestra since I was a child, and have experience in conducting which gives me a variety of experiences and knowledge.

My primary instrument is the flute where I have my grade 8 and also high grades in clarinet and saxophone through the ABRSM. I can teach cornet/trumpet up to grade 3.

I am passionate about teaching music and firmly believe the opportunity to learn a musical instrument should be accessible to all, (adults too!) including people with special educational needs.

I am currently teaching all of my lessons via Zoom due to Covid 19.

What I / we help young people achieve

I enter students in for music exams with the ABRSM and Trinity College of Music up to grade 5 with a 100% pass rate.

I have a great relationship with my pupils and their families, as with a lot of children I start teaching from the age of 7 and in a lot of cases until they go to university. I am always keen to support them all the way through school in any way I can.

I quite often support pupils with their Duke of Edinburgh Awards by filling in a Skills Assessment report for them and an Assessors log. I have also sat and played with pupils at their windband rehearsals to support them and help boost their confidence.

Ultimately, the most important part of my job is helping a student to have fun and leave every lesson feeling happy and proud of themselves.

“Becky is an amazing woodwind teacher. My son plays the clarinet and has recently taken up saxophone. My daughter also had flute lessons and loved her weekly lessons. They both made good progress. Becky is a competent and confident teacher. She is also so positive, bubbly and a real inspiration.” Sarah Jayne Perkins.

“Becky is an amazing music teacher who ignited my daughter’s passion for playing the clarinet. She includes the enjoyment of learning and playing as part of the lessons.” Shona Tomlinson
