Kim Rance
About
I teach flute, clarinet, saxophone and recorder to individuals and small groups. I work in schools around Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon. I also teach from home in my new music room. I am now available for online lessons using Zoom.
I teach first access recorder, woodwind and percussion to whole classes.
I am the musical director of the West Wiltshire Junior Wind Band. The band is suitable for any wind, brass, percussion player when they can play 5 notes to around grade 2. I arrange all the music we play to make sure it is suitable for the ability range within the band.
What I / we help young people achieve
As I work mainly in Primary schools, children who receive instrumental lessons will achieve a good grounding in their technical music playing, begin start to reading notation, be given the opportunity to do graded music exams when ready and are given lots of opportunities to perform to their class, school and parents. When they can play 5 notes children will be invited to join the junior wind band.
Pupils who join the Junior Wind Band make faster progress than those just having lessons. Not only do they improve their technical playing skills but they improve their self confidence, self esteem, co-operation, engagement and enjoyment of playing alongside others. They also build new friendships, and through performances gain a real sense of achievement.
