Associate Conference session#6: Focus on Listening with Evelyn Glennie

14th May 2021 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Ruth Jones

We are delighted to host a session for Associates with Evelyn Glennie, with an opportunity for your questions. We’ll be talking about the importance of listening – attitudes to listening and developing listening skills.

Dame Evelyn Glennie is the world’s premier solo percussionist, performing worldwide with the greatest orchestras, conductors and artists. Her solo recordings exceed 40 CDs and are as diverse as her career on-stage. A double GRAMMY award winner and BAFTA nominee, Evelyn is also a composer for film, theatre and television. Evelyn was awarded an OBE in 1993 and has over 100 international awards to date, including the Polar Music Prize and the Companion of Honour. Evelyn is currently forming The Evelyn Glennie Collection with a vision to open a centre that embodies her mission to Teach the World to Listen.

“Having lost most of her hearing at eight years old Evelyn embarked on a unique journey to discover how to listen again. She has developed a method of using her body as a resonating chamber which has provided her with new ways of experiencing and perceiving sound. In today’s society listening is undervalued, which leads to poor communication. Evelyn’s unique insight shows us that listening is about more than just hearing – it’s about engaging, empowering, inspiring, and creating bonds. True listening is a holistic act.”

Please note, you need to be an Associate of Wiltshire Music Connect to book a place on this workshop.
